Elvira, along with her mother, grandmother and little sister Jessie, lives out in the middle nowhere, with no one to keep her company except the ghostly memories of her dead father. When I first started reading this book, I was ready for some kind of creepy supernatural thriller. Maybe even some angels versus demons action, like a Frank Peretti novel. Instead, what I got was more of a book that couldn't decide whether or not it wanted to be a thriller or a sappy coming of age story. Consequently, it fails on both levels.
A slow-moving and cliche ridden plot filled with obnoxious characters builds up to a ridiculously anticlimactic ending. I must admit, it did have its moments, it's just that they were few and far between.
