The Knights of Arrethtrae book 6.

A young orphaned boy dreams of becoming a swordsman. His dream comes true when a Knight of the Prince offers to teach him the way of the sword. Rowan soon becomes an unbeatable champion in the tournaments. With all the influence and admiration he could want, he is quite satisfied ... or is he? Rowan forgets all about the King's Son. When he is betrayed and beaten, Rowan has no one to turn to...

The characters were fairly realistic: I could imagine them quite vividly. The battle scenes were described perfectly. The bad guys really did seem like bad guys and the good guys were bold and brave.

And then there’s the plot. To put it plainly, it just wasn’t very imaginative. It was basically just regular knights spreading the gospel in a world that seemed a lot like Earth. This book was good but I doubt I’ll reread it.
