To Darkness Fled by Jill Williamson

Released April 1, 2010 from Marcher Lord Press.
Blood of Kings Trilogy book 2.

After I finished By Darkness Hid last year, I couldn't believe how much I had just enjoyed an epic fantasy novel. There was never a dry moment in the entire 500 page book. Now, after To Darkness Fled's 670 page girth, I still haven't experienced a single moment of boredom at the hand of master storyteller Jill Williamson.

Whenever a fantasy novel's plot is based around a long journey to a faraway land, I cringe. Usually these quests are filled with boring description, pathetic attempts at characterization, and an incredible lack of excitement. However, Achan and Vrell's journey through Darkness takes all of these epic fantasy cliches and turns them on their heads.

To Darkness Fled is an action packed, character driven masterpiece. It's hard to imagine that book three in the series, From Darkness Won, could top this, but I wouldn't bet on it.
